The engine control module (ECM) sets DTC P3000 when it detects a communication fault affecting the glow plug warning lamp message carried on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. On these diesel Audi models the ECM or glow plug control module sends the lamp request across the bus to the instrument cluster rather than driving a bulb directly, so a break anywhere in that message chain, between the ECM, the glow plug control module, and the cluster, will set this code.
