Glow plug warning lamp circuit on CAN bus fault
P3000 — Glow plug warning lamp circuit on CAN bus fault
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Audi
P3000 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Audi vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P3000 is stored, the module has detected a signal or supply voltage lower than the expected operating range.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P3000 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The engine control module (ECM) sets DTC P3000 when it detects a communication fault affecting the glow plug warning lamp message carried on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. On these diesel Audi models the ECM or glow plug control module sends the lamp request across the bus to the instrument cluster rather than driving a bulb directly, so a break anywhere in that message chain, between the ECM, the glow plug control module, and the cluster, will set this code. The most common effect is the glow plug warning lamp failing to illuminate correctly, flashing to indicate a fault, or staying o...
