Fuel injection pump voltage out-of-range
P1284 — Fuel injection pump voltage out-of-range
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Chrysler
P1284 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Chrysler vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1284 is stored, the module has detected a plausibility fault — the measured value is in the electrical range but is not consistent with expected operating behaviour.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1284 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
This fault code sets when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects that the voltage supplied to the fuel injection pump is outside the expected range during operation. On these applications the electronically controlled injection pump relies on a stable battery feed to power its internal controller and solenoids, so the PCM monitors this supply for low or high voltage. Insufficient or unstable voltage can cause hard starting, low power, hesitation, surging, stalling, or a no start condition. The fault is typically detected during cranking and normal driving and is often accompanied by a che...
