Code Information

The evaporative emission (EVAP) system vent valve, also called the canister close valve, controls the connection between the charcoal canister and atmosphere. It is held open during normal purging so the canister can draw fresh air, and is commanded closed to seal the system for a leak test. DTC P1440 is set on Hyundai and Kia vehicles when the Engine Control Module detects a fault in the vent valve or its control circuit, such as an open or shorted solenoid, a valve stuck open or closed, or a circuit that does not respond as commanded.
