Code Information

The front, or upstream, heated oxygen sensor reports the oxygen content of the exhaust to the Engine Control Module (ECM), switching rapidly between a low and high voltage as the mixture moves rich and lean so the ECM can hold closed loop fuel control. DTC P1170 sets when the ECM sees no meaningful change in the front sensor signal over time, with the voltage staying fixed or flatlined rather than switching as expected.
