The Body Control Module (BCM) commands the heated backlite (rear defroster) relay through a low side or high side driver, energising the relay coil to apply battery voltage to the rear glass conductive grid. DTC B1348 is set when the BCM commands the relay on but detects an open circuit on the relay control output, meaning no current is flowing through the relay coil and no feedback voltage is being seen by the driver.
