Code Information

The Body Control Module (BCM) controls the illuminated keyless entry keypad on the driver door pillar through a dedicated lamp output circuit. DTC B1626 sets when the BCM detects that the keypad lamp output wire is shorted to chassis ground, meaning the BCM cannot raise the line to battery voltage when commanding the lamp on because the unwanted ground path is sinking the current. This is most commonly caused by chafed insulation where the lamp output wire has rubbed against a bracket, body panel, or grounded component inside the door cavity.
