PRNDL Reverse Input Short To Battery
B1629 — PRNDL Reverse Input Short To Battery
System: Body | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Generic
B1629 is a manufacturer-specific body diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the B-prefix family of codes, which covers body, interior, airbag, or comfort-electronics faults.
When B1629 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: Body (B) codes are often stored in the body control module, airbag module, or climate module. A basic OBD-II tool usually will not read body codes — an enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is typically required.
B1629 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The B1629 diagnostic trouble code is set when the Body Control Module or Powertrain Control Module sees the PRNDL reverse input pulled high to battery voltage at a time when the reverse position is not selected, or the input voltage is otherwise inconsistent with battery voltage being applied. The PRNDL switch reports gear lever position to the control modules using a network of discrete contacts, and when the reverse signal wire is shorted to a B+ source the module reads the reverse input as permanently asserted. The most common physical cause is harness chafing where a power feed wire (often...
