Wiper Front Power Circuit Short To Ground
B1843 — Wiper Front Power Circuit Short To Ground
System: Body | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Ford
B1843 is a manufacturer-specific body diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the B-prefix family of codes, which covers body, interior, airbag, or comfort-electronics faults.
When B1843 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: Body (B) codes are often stored in the body control module, airbag module, or climate module. A basic OBD-II tool usually will not read body codes — an enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is typically required.
B1843 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The B1843 fault code is set by the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) or Central Timing Module (CTM) when it detects a short to ground on the front wiper motor power supply circuit. The module monitors the wiper power feed and expects to see battery voltage at the monitor pin when the wiper relay is commanded closed. When the module commands the relay closed and sees the voltage immediately collapse to near zero, accompanied by a high current draw that often blows the wiper fuse, it stores B1843. Symptoms include a blown wiper fuse that fails again as soon as the wipers are operated, completely i...
