Transfer case 2WD solenoid circuit open or short to ground
P1876 — Transfer case 2WD solenoid circuit open or short to ground
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Ford
P1876 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1876 is stored, the module has detected an open (broken or disconnected) electrical path in the monitored circuit; and a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1876 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The transfer case 2WD solenoid is commanded by the 4WD control module, or PCM on some applications, as part of selecting and holding two wheel drive mode in the transfer case. DTC P1876 sets when the module detects an open circuit or a short to ground on the 2WD solenoid control circuit by comparing the voltage it reads against the commanded driver state. An open circuit stops the solenoid energising so the mode cannot be controlled correctly, while a short to ground pulls the control line low and can cause excessive current through the driver. When this fault is stored the transfer case may n...
