Code Information

The Engine Control Module derives engine speed and crankshaft position from a sensor reading a toothed reluctor wheel, and establishes the engine cycle by comparing that signal against the camshaft position signal. On inductive sensors the two sensor wires are polarity sensitive, because reversing them inverts the waveform and moves the point at which the module recognises each tooth, and on installations with more than one speed or position sensor the connectors are physically similar enough to be interchanged.
