Code Information

On coil on plug ignition systems the Engine Control Module controls each cylinder's coil individually, supplying battery voltage to the coil and switching an output stage that charges the primary winding for the dwell period before the field collapses to produce the spark. Because current must flow through that circuit for the module to have any control, the ECM identifies a broken circuit from the absence of current when dwell is commanded.
