Crankshaft Position Sensor circuit
P1336 — Crankshaft Position Sensor circuit
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Nissan
P1336 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Nissan vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1336 is stored, the module has detected a sensor-related fault — the reported value from the named sensor is out of spec.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1336 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
On Nissan engines the Crankshaft Position Sensor (POS) monitors the toothed signal plate on the crankshaft or drive plate to give the Engine Control Module (ECM) precise crankshaft angle and engine speed for ignition and injection timing. DTC P1336 indicates the ECM has detected a fault in the crankshaft position sensor circuit or an irregularity in the signal pattern, commonly caused by a chipped or damaged tooth (cog) on the signal plate. The ECM recognises the irregular tooth spacing as a circuit or signal fault and stores the code. Symptoms can include a flashing or steady check engine lig...
