B0017 — RHF seatbelt deployment loop Circuit open
System: Body | Type: Generic (OBD-II Standard) | Make: Generic
B0017 is a generic (obd-ii standard) body diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the B-prefix family of codes, which covers body, interior, airbag, or comfort-electronics faults.
When B0017 is stored, the module has detected an open (broken or disconnected) electrical path in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: Body (B) codes are often stored in the body control module, airbag module, or climate module. A basic OBD-II tool usually will not read body codes — an enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is typically required.
Because B0017 is a generic OBD-II code, its base definition is shared across manufacturers. The specific diagnostic steps, reference values, and repair procedures can vary by vehicle, and the TaT Diagnostic Assistant includes verified procedures submitted by working technicians.
The Restraints Control Module (RCM) continuously checks the right hand front (RHF) seatbelt pretensioner deployment loop for a complete, low resistance path so it can be certain the initiator will receive firing current in a crash. DTC B0017 sets when the RCM measures an open circuit or no continuity through that loop, meaning the path through the pretensioner and its wiring is broken. With the loop open the pretensioner cannot receive deployment current and will not fire when needed. While this fault is stored the RCM disables the RHF pretensioner output, illuminates the SRS airbag warning la...
