RH deployment loop Circuit shorted to Earth
B1018 — RH deployment loop Circuit shorted to Earth
System: Body | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Holden
B1018 is a manufacturer-specific body diagnostic trouble code recorded for Holden vehicles. It belongs to the B-prefix family of codes, which covers body, interior, airbag, or comfort-electronics faults.
When B1018 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: Body (B) codes are often stored in the body control module, airbag module, or climate module. A basic OBD-II tool usually will not read body codes — an enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is typically required.
B1018 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The Restraint Control Module (RCM) continuously monitors the two wires of each airbag deployment loop against chassis ground as part of its self test routine. B1018 is logged when the RCM detects that one or both wires of the right hand deployment loop have a low resistance path to earth (chassis ground), typically less than a few hundred ohms. On Holden vehicles the right hand loop services the passenger front airbag squib, and depending on option level the right side curtain or side thorax airbag. A short to ground in this circuit can cause no deployment, partial deployment, or unintended de...
