Transmission Transfer Case Disengaged Solenoid Open Circuit
P1879 — Transmission Transfer Case Disengaged Solenoid Open Circuit
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Generic
P1879 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1879 is stored, the module has detected an open (broken or disconnected) electrical path in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1879 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
This DTC is specific to an open circuit in the disengaged solenoid control circuit of the transfer case. This solenoid disengages a gearset or shift mechanism within the transfer case, typically during a transition from four wheel drive to two wheel drive. The module monitors the circuit for continuity and the expected current flow when it commands the solenoid. DTC P1879 sets when the circuit is open from broken wiring, a disconnected component, or an internal solenoid failure, so no current flows. With the solenoid unable to operate, the transfer case may fail to disengage the mode and set a...
