P1882 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.

When P1882 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.

Code Information

This DTC is specific to a short to ground in the engine coolant level switch circuit monitored by the Generic Electronic Module (GEM). The coolant level switch is typically monitored on a signal circuit that changes state with coolant level. DTC P1882 sets when the control circuit is grounded at a time it should not be, which the GEM interprets as a fault. This prevents accurate detection of the coolant level and can trigger a false low coolant warning or suppress a genuine one.
