When P1885 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.

Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.

Code Information

This DTC is specific to a short to ground in the circuit controlling the transfer case disengaged solenoid. The control module drives this solenoid to release the transfer case from a drive mode, and it monitors the circuit voltage. DTC P1885 sets when the circuit voltage drops below a calibrated threshold for a calibrated time, indicating the solenoid control line is being pulled to ground unintentionally. The short can disable proper solenoid operation, so the transfer case may fail to disengage the mode and set a warning light, and a persistent short may blow a fuse where one is fitted.
