Code Information

The Engine Control Module (ECM) calculates engine load from the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and cross checks that value against the load it expects from throttle position and engine speed. DTC P1140 is set on Hyundai and Kia vehicles when these two load signals disagree by more than the allowed tolerance, meaning the airflow measured by the MAF sensor does not match the throttle opening the driver is commanding.
