P1811 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.

When P1811 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit; and a signal or supply voltage lower than the expected operating range.

Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.

Code Information

This DTC is set when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects a short to ground in the 4WD Low indicator circuit within the Transmission Fluid Pressure (TFP) manual valve position switch system. The 4WD Low indicator circuit is one of several monitored inputs from the TFP switch, which reports the manual valve position by applying specific voltage combinations to the PCM. If the circuit for the 4WD Low indicator is continuously grounded when it should not be—indicating a short to ground—the PCM identifies this as a fault and sets P1811.
