This DTC is set when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects battery voltage on the 4WD mode select circuit where it should not be present, indicating a short to battery. The 4WD mode select circuit provides input to the PCM regarding the current operating mode of the transfer case. The signal is typically based on predefined voltage levels. A short to battery introduces unintended voltage, causing the PCM to register an invalid signal and set P1814.
