About B1828

B1828 is a manufacturer-specific body diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the B-prefix family of codes, which covers body, interior, airbag, or comfort-electronics faults.

When B1828 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit; and a signal or supply voltage higher than the expected operating range.

Scanning & clearing: Body (B) codes are often stored in the body control module, airbag module, or climate module. A basic OBD-II tool usually will not read body codes — an enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is typically required.

B1828 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.

Code Information

The B1828 code is set by the Body Control Module (BCM) when it detects that the rear wiper high limit (park sense) input is shorted to battery voltage. The BCM expects the park sense line to sit at or near a defined low or pull up reference state when the wiper is not in the parked position, and to switch only when the internal park switch in the rear wiper motor closes. A constant battery voltage on this circuit tells the BCM the input is stuck high regardless of wiper position, and the fault is logged. Drivers may notice the rear wiper failing to park, refusing to operate, running on after t...
