P1180 — Fuel Delivery system low
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Ford
P1180 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1180 is stored, the module has detected a signal or supply voltage lower than the expected operating range.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1180 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
This code applies to Ford diesel engines with the Lucas EPIC injection pump system, where the Powertrain Control Module monitors fuel delivery pressure and metering within the pump. DTC P1180 sets when the fuel delivery system pressure or delivery is lower than the control module expects, meaning the pump is not building or maintaining the fuel pressure required for correct injection. On these systems low delivery is commonly caused by air in the fuel, a restricted supply, a weak transfer pump, or a metering or regulation fault inside the pump. When delivery is low the engine may be hard to st...
