When P1182 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit; a bank-specific fault, meaning it applies only to one cylinder bank of a multi-bank engine; and a sensor-related fault — the reported value from the named sensor is out of spec.

Code Information

The bank 1 upstream wideband oxygen sensor is measured against a fixed reference, or virtual ground, voltage that the Engine Control Module (ECM) applies to the sensor circuit, commonly around 2.5V. The ECM reads the Nernst cell voltage and the pump cell current relative to that reference in order to calculate lambda across a wide air fuel ratio range. DTC P1182 is set when the ECM detects that the reference voltage line for bank 1 sensor 1 has been pulled down to ground, so the reference collapses and every measurement made against it becomes invalid.
