When P1832 is stored, the module has detected an open (broken or disconnected) electrical path in the monitored circuit; and a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.

Code Information

The transfer case 4WD solenoid is commanded by the 4WD control module, or PCM on some applications, to shift the transfer case between two wheel drive and four wheel drive. DTC P1832 sets when the module detects an open circuit or a short to ground on the solenoid control circuit by comparing the voltage it reads on the circuit against the commanded driver state. An open circuit stops the solenoid energising so the shift cannot take place, while a short to ground pulls the control line low and can cause excessive current through the driver or stop the solenoid being controlled.
