Transfer case 4WD Solenoid circuit open or short to ground
P1832 — Transfer case 4WD Solenoid circuit open or short to ground
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Ford
P1832 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1832 is stored, the module has detected an open (broken or disconnected) electrical path in the monitored circuit; and a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1832 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The transfer case 4WD solenoid is commanded by the 4WD control module, or PCM on some applications, to shift the transfer case between two wheel drive and four wheel drive. DTC P1832 sets when the module detects an open circuit or a short to ground on the solenoid control circuit by comparing the voltage it reads on the circuit against the commanded driver state. An open circuit stops the solenoid energising so the shift cannot take place, while a short to ground pulls the control line low and can cause excessive current through the driver or stop the solenoid being controlled. When this code ...
