When P1819 is stored, the module has detected a plausibility fault — the measured value is in the electrical range but is not consistent with expected operating behaviour.

This DTC sets when the Transmission Control Module (TCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the transmission range switch, also known as the Park Neutral Position switch or PRNDL switch, is reporting an invalid or undefined gear selector position. The switch feeds the modules a coded combination of signals that should match the mechanical selector position, and an illegal combination sets this code.
