The primary bank 1 sensor on these Honda and Acura engines is a wide band air fuel ratio sensor that supplies the Engine Control Module (ECM) with a precise indication of the exhaust air fuel ratio for closed loop fuel control. The ECM monitors the sensor circuit for a dynamic, in range signal that tracks mixture changes. DTC P1164 sets when the ECM sees an abnormal sensor signal that is out of the expected range, for example parked fixed high, fixed low, or otherwise not changing, for a calibrated period during closed loop operation.
