The swirl control valve, part of the intake manifold air control system, closes at idle and low speed to increase intake air velocity and improve combustion. The swirl control valve control vacuum check switch monitors whether vacuum is actually being applied to the swirl control valve actuator and reports an on or off state to the Engine Control Module (ECM), it is used for on board diagnosis rather than for control.
