P1186 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Hyundai vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1186 is stored, the module has detected a signal or supply voltage lower than the expected operating range.

This DTC is set when the ECM detects that the actual fuel pressure in the high pressure fuel system is below the minimum threshold required for a given engine speed. The ECM continuously monitors fuel rail pressure via the fuel rail pressure sensor. If the pressure falls below a calibrated limit for a specific engine RPM range, suggesting insufficient fuel delivery or pressure retention, the ECM logs this fault to prevent engine performance issues or damage. Symptoms can include a lack of power, hesitation or misfire under load, hard starting, or the engine entering a reduced power mode.
