Fuel Stepper Motor Control Circuit Open
P116C — Fuel Stepper Motor Control Circuit Open
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Ford
P116C is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P116C is stored, the module has detected an open (broken or disconnected) electrical path in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P116C is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
On these Ford systems the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) drives the fuel stepper motor through separate control windings, Control 1 and Control 2, to finely adjust fuel metering, monitoring each winding circuit for continuity and the expected current draw during commanded stepper movements. DTC P116C sets when the PCM detects an open circuit, with no current flow or feedback, in one of the stepper motor control windings for longer than the defined timeout during an adjustment command. The cause is usually an open in a control winding or its wiring, or a poor connection in the stepper circuit....
